LED Light Therapy

Acne, Wrinkles, Muscle Pain & Tension, Arthritis

Experience the healing power of light. Originally developed by NASA to support tissue healing in space, light therapy—also known as photobiomodulation or low-level light therapy (LLLT)—uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate the body’s natural cellular processes. Much like photosynthesis in plants, this gentle, non-invasive therapy sparks a cascade of beneficial effects beneath the skin, helping to reduce inflammation, boost collagen, ease pain, and promote overall healing.

At our clinic, we use FDA-cleared light therapy devices that are both safe and effectivehelping you feel and look your best, naturally.

LED Light Therapy FAQ

What is Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT)?

Think of LLLT as a natural energy boost for your skin, body, and hair. By penetrating deeply into tissues, it increases cellular metabolism, improves blood flow, and enhances cell function. This process encourages the body to repair, regenerate, and function more effectively—leading to healthier skin, reduced inflammation, pain relief, and even new hair growth.

Is LED light therapy safe?

Yes! Low-level LED light therapy is a non-invasive, painless, and safe treatment for all skin types. It uses visible light—not UV—so there’s no risk of burns or skin damage. The light gently stimulates healing and rejuvenation, and there's no downtime after treatment.

Celluma devices are FDA-cleared for multiple applications, including skin care, hair restoration, and pain management. LED therapy has a strong track record of safety in both clinical and aesthetic settings, and most people experience no side effects.

How soon will I see results from LED light therapy?

Many people notice subtle improvements—like a healthy glow or reduced redness—after just a few sessions. For deeper changes such as reduced wrinkles, improved acne, or hair regrowth, results typically become more noticeable after 4 to 6 weeks of consistent treatment.

What does red light therapy do vs. blue light therapy?

Red light therapy reaches deeper layers of the skin and is used to stimulate collagen and elastin production, reduce inflammation, support wound healing, and improve overall skin texture. It also supports circulation and cellular repair for pain relief and hair growth.

Blue light therapy targets the skin’s surface and is highly effective for acne. It works by killing acne-causing bacteria. Celluma uses blue light at 465 nanometers—an optimal wavelength for this purpose.

How does LED light therapy help with pain and inflammation?

Red light improves circulation and helps deliver oxygen and nutrients (like ATP) to tissues, which can relieve pain and promote healing. It also activates immune cells (macrophages) to release cytokines—proteins that regulate inflammation and repair tissue damage.

Can LED light therapy help with hair loss?

Yes! Red light therapy boosts blood flow and cell activity in the scalp, which can reduce shedding, strengthen roots, and support the growth of new hair. Over time, this can lead to visibly thicker, fuller hair.

Can I use LED light therapy if I have sensitive skin?

Absolutely. LED light therapy is gentle and safe for even the most sensitive skin. In fact, it often helps calm irritation and redness. If you have specific concerns like rosacea, you can start with shorter sessions and adjust as needed.

Are there any contraindications for LED light therapy?

Yes. Please consult your physician before using LED light therapy if any of the following apply:

  • You are taking photosensitive medications (wait 3–5 days and check with your doctor).

  • You’ve had steroid injections recently.

  • You are pregnant—avoid use over the belly, though facial treatments are generally considered safe.

  • You have a history of epilepsy or seizures.

  • You have cancer or any known metastasis (requires medical clearance).

  • For children under 12, always consult a pediatrician before use.

Can LED light therapy be combined with other treatments?

Yes! LED therapy pairs well with many treatments including acupuncture & microneedling. It enhances healing, reduces inflammation, and supports overall wellness when used alongside other therapies.

How often should I get LED light therapy?

For the best results, a consistent schedule is key. Most protocols involve 2–3 sessions per week for 4 weeks. After the initial series, weekly or bi-weekly maintenance can help preserve your results.

Is there any downtime after a light therapy session?

Not at all. LED therapy is completely non-invasive and has no downtime. You can go right back to work, errands, or anything else you have planned.

Does LED light therapy hurt?

Nope! Treatments are completely painless. Most clients describe the sensation as soothing—some even fall asleep during their session.

Is LED light therapy the same as infrared therapy?

They’re similar, but not identical. Red light therapy penetrates the skin to support healing and regeneration. Infrared light goes even deeper and is especially effective for muscle recovery and pain relief. Some devices combine both for maximum benefit.

Can I use LED light therapy at home?

There are at-home devices available, but professional-grade equipment like Celluma is more powerful and delivers deeper, more consistent results. In-office treatments are especially effective for targeted concerns like acne, wrinkles, and pain.

What are the treatment protocols?

We recommend the following series for optimal results:

  • Wrinkles: 12 sessions, 30 minutes each, over 4 weeks

  • Acne: 12 sessions, 30 minutes each, over 4 weeks

  • Aches & Pains: 12 sessions, 30 minutes each, over 4 weeks
