Ancient healers knew what modern science has only recently discovered, the Abdomen is central to health and well-being.
What is Maya Abdominal Massage?
Maya Abdominal Massage is a therapeutic technique rooted in ancient Mayan healing traditions. Massage is performed on the abdomen, lower back, and sacrum to promote optimal positioning of the abdominal organs, such as the uterus, ovaries, and intestines. Proper alignment of these organs enhances circulation, lymphatic drainage, and nerve function, which may help alleviate menstrual disorders, fertility issues, digestive problems, and pelvic pain.
Dr. Rosita Arvigo, DN is the founder of The Arvigo® Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage. Dr. Arvigo apprenticed with Don Elijio Panti, a traditional Maya Shaman in Belize for 13 years.
The Uterus
Supporting the health of the uterus is central to Maya Abdominal Massage. The uterus is held in place by muscles and ligaments. For various reasons the uterus can shift out of its optimal position, negatively impacting reproductive health. In addition, a mal-positioned uterus can constrict the flow of blood and lymph and impinge nerves. Maya Abdominal Massage gently guides the uterus back into place, restoring balance in the pelvic area and surrounding organs. This supports healthy menstruation, menopause, pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
